Telemarketing Call, 206-988-1984, King County Police Union, King County Sheriff Union

I received a call today from a man saying he was with the King County Police Union (may have said King County Sheriff Union).

He called from 206-988-1984 or 2069881984 on 7/25/11 at approx 5:11pm.

He was trying to get a donation for fingerprinting of children, and protecting the children.

  1. A guy who identified himself as "Mike" called at 8:09 PM on September 19, 2011 from 206-242-5928. I thought he said he was with "The King County Police Unit", and sensing a telemarketer I said hurriedly, "Is there a problem, officer?" When I asked for his last name, he hung up. According to the State of Washington, King County Sheriff's officers are represented by Public Safety Employees Union, Local #519, but for fundraising purposes they DBA as My ID Club and King County Police Union. I see that Support Service Inc is their fundraiser, and they take 80% off the top.

  2. It's such a scam. It's best not to give money over the phone at all, as you really do not know who you are giving your credit card # to.

King County would be Sheriff not Police. If they say the wrong thing, then you know it's not right.

I used to get the same calls down in Phoenix- They would say they were with the Maricopa County Sheriff Dept (should have been Office not Dept).

  3. I just received a call from (206) 582-4574 who I suspect is the same as stated above. Unfortunately I didn't quite catch on right away it was a scam, but I did end up him giving him some fake info. Now I know how to handle any future calls much better.
