Mary Valley Heritage Railway, Australia Holiday Packages

A Rattling Good Christmas

Mary Valley Heritage Railway,  Old Gympie Railway Station

28 November 2012, Mary Valley, Queensland, Australia -- A program of events is being devised by the MVHR for the Christmas and New Year at the Old Gympie Railway Station.

Old Gympie Station will be a hive of activity this weekend as supporters’ and volunteers spring clean the 99 year old heritage listed building in preparation for a busy festive season. Next weekend there will be a volunteer track gang replacing sleepers in Gympie Yard.

Festivities will kick off on Saturday December 1 with a revamped Wild Wild West themed night, including a licensed casino, at the station. Manager of the station’s restaurant, Bianca Nagy, said she was pulling out all stops for the event. “We have an authentic Mexican menu planned and the popular tequila shots will be back”.

Whilst the Valley Rattler will not be operating the Santa Shuttles this year, a dedicated team of volunteers are putting together a special season of events at the station. The kids won’t miss out. This year, Old Gympie Station will be transformed into a magical wonderland of Christmas cheer. On Saturday December 15 from 6.30pm, Santa will stable the sleigh and the reindeer in the Valley Rattler maintenance depot and the young and the young at heart can visit Santa in his special heritage carriage. A twilight market will be part of the festivities and there will be a raffle, live entertainment and good food.

President of the MVHR, Tony Hallam stated “The support from the community has been a boost to the MVHR. Groups have been booking in for their end of year parties, businesses and community groups are offering their help and everyone is working hard to lay the foundation for a re-boot of the Rattler.”

Other activities occurring at the station over the holidays will include Christmas lunch and a New Year’s Eve party. For more info call 5482 2750 and like the Valley Rattler on Facebook.
